Top 5 Favorite: Winter Sports in Portland

Top 5 Faves

We love snuggling up with a warm cup of boozy hot chocolate and a good book, but we also love getting out in the snow and enjoying all that Mt Hood and the nature surrounding Portland have to offer! Here is a list of our favorite winter sports in and around PDX! But before you head off into the snowy mountains...

Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort operates on a special use permit on the Mt. Hood National Forest, offering some of the most spectacular skiing and snowboarding in the Northwest. The resort is just 90 minutes away from Portland, and it delivers a big mountain experience you'd expect to travel much farther to enjoy. The resort sprawls across Mt. Hood's southeast flank: the sunny, wind-protected side of Mt. Hood. Meadows' playful terrain welcomes and challenges all levels of skiers and snowboarders. Load up, load out, then head back to your cozy room at the NEXT to cap the night off right.

Located on Mt Hood, a quick trip from Portland proper will take you to the historic Timberline Lodge. Whether you'd like to ski, snowboard, or hang back and indulge in boozy winter beverages by the fire, Timberline's got you covered. And did you know Timberline's exterior was used in the filming of Stanley Kubrick's horror film The Shining? Hang out at the Day Lodge while your friends and family head out on the slopes, then you can all head back into the city -- it's the best of both worlds in Portland this winter! Ski all day, stay in the city all night.

Timberline Lodge

This family-friendly winter hot spot on Mt Hood offers pretty much all the winter sports you can think of -- including Cosmic Tubing nights! Take sleigh rides, snowmobile tours, or finally learn to get up on those skis and snowboards like you've always dreamed! Feel like going a little slower? Check out their snowshoeing lessons and glide on top of the drifts. Want to get wild? Check out Mt. Hood's only rope tow assisted Terrain Park and get your board ready! Then, when all is said and done, head back to Portland proper and get snuggled up in your cozy room at the NEXT.
